ABOUT CINCY SPEECH

Relationship-driven care across the lifespan

At Cincy Speech, we believe communication is more than a skill—it’s how people connect, advocate, learn, and show up in the world.

We provide personalized speech pathology services for children, teens, and adults navigating communication challenges across school, professional, and everyday settings. Our approach is relationship-driven and grounded in whole-person care, meaning we take time to understand each individual’s strengths, goals, and lived experience—not just a diagnosis.

By building trust and clarity through collaborative, evidence-based therapy, we help individuals communicate effectively today and thrive at every stage of life.

About the Founder

A vision rooted in connection and care

My name is Theresa Schmelzer. I have worked as a Speech Language Pathologist for 29 years. I started my career in Indianapolis at a rehabilitation hospital, where I served adolescents through adults who suffered brain injuries and strokes. I learned that rehabilitation was possible no matter how severe the injury was. In this setting, I spent a lot of my time serving patients with aphasia, traumatic brain injuries, dysphagia, and tracheostomy-ventilation (trach-vent) care. After my husband and I had children, I became a stay-at-home mom and homeschooled our 5 children for many years. It was during this time that I spent many weekends in nursing homes helping patients recover. I worked with patients who had various underlying conditions, including dementia, aphasia, dysarthria, brain injuries, dysphagia, cognitive communication disorders, and progressive neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s disease. I felt blessed to work with so many wonderful adults.

Theresa Schmelzer, M.A., CCC-SLP

Once we moved to Cincinnati, I knew it was time to keep learning and growing. Here is where Cincy Speech started. It was time for me to venture into the school system. I grew up in Sunman, Indiana, on a rural street, so I have always had a love for small towns. I decided I wanted to reach as many children as possible, so I began offering virtual speech services. Over the following decade, I taught in various small-town schools. I connected with students only through a screen, but still witnessed huge gains of the children meeting their goals. These are schools that did not have access to an in-person Speech Pathologist because they were in very rural areas, which is something I relate to. I was able to help hundreds of students through my Zoom account, just as if we were in person.

Over the years, my business grew, and now we are a team of 18 Speech Language Pathologists who live in many different states. With all of my experience, I hope that we can help you. My family moved back to my home area, and I am so happy to be here. We live in Batesville, Indiana, and I am ready for the next chapter, where I want to bring all my learning and experiences together.
